Roma are interested in signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal.

The 24-year-old is believed to be on Roma’s target list for January but any deal is believed to be at an early stage.

It is believed that clubs are in touch to discuss a temporary transfer until the end of the season.

Maitland-Niles were on the verge of signing with Everton on a temporary basis in the summer transfer window, and Rafael Benitez’s side are still keen to sign the midfielder at Goodison Park.

However, it is understood that Maitland-Niles’ preferred move would be to join Roma.

Roma and Pinto appear keen to capitalize on the Premier League market, identifying players who may have strayed or need regular playing time to get their careers and international aspirations back on track.

A move to Roma resumed Tammy Abraham in the summer and the same seems to be true of Maitland-Niles.

Maitland-Niles recently returned to training after a hiatus due to illness.

He will join his England teammates Abraham and Chris Smalling in the Italian capital, while former Arsenal team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also part of the Roma squad.

Roma, currently managed by Jose Mourinho, are sixth in the Serie A table – six points behind Atalanta in last place in the Champions League.
