Philippe Coutinho joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan from Barcelona, as it was first revealed the athlete.
It is understood that the opportunity to play under Steven Gerrard was a key factor in the Brazil international’s decision to return to the Premier League.
A number of Premier League clubs have been interested in the 29-year-old.
Gerard described Coutinho as a “world-class player and player” on Thursday.
“I appreciate that his name is there and that he is associated with Aston Villa, but there are also five other clubs in the Premier League and others across Europe associated with him,” Gerrard said.
“I can understand that because you’re talking about a world-class player and player.
“He is a great football player.
“Sharing the pitch with Coutinho was a great experience because he was at a level where there are only a few footballers. His imagination, his creation, as well as some outstanding reels are incredible. His name speaks for itself. But I can’t say more than that.”
Barcelona were keen to get Coutinho’s high salary off the books so he could sign a new £55m contract with Ferran Torres.
Coutinho previously spent six years in the Premier League playing for Liverpool. In total, he played 201 matches for Anfield club and scored 54 goals.
