Bavarian Loan Watch: Joshua Zirkzee is flourishing under Vincent Kompany

Most Bayern Munich fans will remember well what Joshua Zirkzee did at the end of the calendar year 2019. In his first two Bundesliga appearances, Zirkzee appeared late in the game as a substitute and scored the winning goal both times. While he showed plenty of potential in attack, it’s hard to break into the team when you face the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry – to name a few. Instead of making him play for the second team, Bayern loaned him to Italian team Parma. Unfortunately, the young Dutchman sustained an injury at LCL during his time in Italy and was only able to appear in four matches.

Now – two years after his stunning Bundesliga win – Zirkzee finds himself on loan in Belgium playing for RSC Anderlecht club. Under the leadership of legendary player-turned-coach, Vincent Kompany, Zirkzee may finally thrive. With eight goals in 18 games so far this season, Kompany said Zirkzee is very good for the Belgian league! Zirkzee humbly replied: “When that comes out of his mouth, it’s of course a great compliment. You respect every coach, but you respect a little more for someone with such a record. I don’t agree with him that I’m better than Belgian football. I think there’s no one here. Very good for the Belgian League.”

His loan to Anderlecht expires this summer. Zirkzee will be hoping to continue his success from the first half of the season this spring and show why he deserves a chance to break into the Bayern Munich side. When asked if he wanted to continue his career at Bayern Munich, Zirkzee said, “Bayern Munich separated [of his career] It’s not completed yet.”
