Birmingham City manager Lee Boyer has confirmed defender Juan Castillo will return to Chelsea from a loan deal.
The Blues Acquaintance was originally part of the youth setup at Ajax, but then joined Cobham Academy in 2016.
He signed his first professional contract at the club in 2017, then extended that deal for another three years in 2019.
In an interview, via Birmingham Live, Boyer confirmed that the 22-year-old will be called up by his father’s club and will soon return to the Blues.
“Juan has Covid at the moment but I think it will happen, Chelsea remember him.”
Castillo is one of 21 players out on loan to Chelsea this season, spending the first few months of the season with the Championship team.
However, he has only made five appearances for the club’s first team in all competitions, with four more coming up in the Premier League’s second tier.
Chelsea also have the likes of Conor Gallagher on loan this season, with the midfielder spending the season with Premier League side Crystal Palace.
However, he revealed that he has not yet thought about his future at the Blues as he said: “We know Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world at the moment. It’s a tough team to get into. But I’m not thinking about that right now.”
Thomas Tuchel himself is thought to be keen on using the 22-year-old next season and has expressed his admiration for him: “I’ve said many times how much we love Connor, and how successful he is. We saw his goals, we see his performance throughout.
“We need to sort out our problems because we’re a bit unlucky with injuries in the middle of our game. We’re struggling with that but it has nothing to do with Connor.”
