Halifax County has received an interest-free loan of $170,000 to help pay for a new folding truck for the county’s Department of Public Utilities Department of Solid Waste.
Membership company Halifax Electric plays a supporting role in the purchase of the new folding truck by facilitating a loan funded by the USDA Rural Economic Development Grant and Loan Program.
The new Halifax County 2022 Mack Granite 64FR Roll-Off will help the department deliver waste to the county landfill site.
“The County of Halifax is grateful to Halifax EMC for facilitating the USDA interest-free REDLG loan for the purchase of this new foldable truck,” said Dia Denton, interim county manager. “Halifax County strives in all of our departments to provide the highest level of service to our citizens at the lowest possible cost. Obtaining an interest-free loan for this new equipment helps us do just that.”
“The USDA REDLG Zero Interest Loan Facility allows us to support our communities beyond our electrical services,” said Charles Gehry, Executive Vice President of Halifax EMC, “This is the second interest-free USDA cooperative loan for the county, and we look forward to helping with any needs.” futuristic”.
In the past several years, Halifax EMC has secured more than $1.9 million in USDA funding in Halifax and Warren counties for fire trucks, patrol vehicles, and a fireboat as well as electric nursing home beds.
When the money is repaid, it is loaned back to help with future projects in the communities served by Halifax EMC.
Halifax EMC is a local, member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative that serves more than 10,000 electric members in Halifax, Warren and parts of Nash and Martin counties.
