Dear Neighbor,

As a state senator, I have fought hard for programs and services that help ease the burden of the pandemic on Long Island families. I am excited to share that file with you New York State Homeowners Assistance Fund (NYS HAF), a program that will provide up to $539 million to help eligible homeowners avoid mortgage arrears, defaults, foreclosures and homelessness as a result of the pandemic, Accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis will begin Monday, January 3, 2022.

This program is expected to be in great demand, so I urge anyone who may benefit to visit today to learn more, see if you qualify, and gather the documents needed to apply first on Monday, January 3rd.

Who is eligible to apply?

You may qualify if you are a homeowner and:

  • Late or forgiving about your mortgage
  • Failure to pay property taxes, water bills, or sewage bills
  • Behind the monthly maintenance fee on your barn or apartment
  • In the event of a mortgage default
  • Behind loans, installment contracts, or rent payments for a manufactured home

What kind of assistance is available under the NYS HAF program?

The program will provide eligible homeowners affected by the pandemic with several types of support, including:

  • Financial support for processing overdue housing payments, including mortgage payments, property taxes, sewage or water bills, condo and co-op fees, up to a maximum of $50,000
  • Case managers who can help you access other Mortgage Forgiveness Programs

Are there restrictions on who can apply based on income?
