Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has been shortlisted for a potential loan signing in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The 28-year-old lags frequently in midfield at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, but has made a few appearances in recent weeks due to injury and Covid-19 issues.
He has made 11 appearances for the Blues so far this season, but could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge next month.
Leeds United have shown an interest in the England midfielder, but his former club Everton could make a surprising move in January.
According to the Telegraph, Rafa Benitez is looking to bolster his squad next month and Barkley is among the names the Toffees are considering signing until the end of the season.
Barkley left Merseyside in January 2018 for £15m, leaving a bitter taste among Everton followers. He was due to join Chelsea in the summer of 2017, but the £35m move was held back by doubts over his long-term fitness.
The Chelsea midfielder expressed his love for his childhood club, saying in January 2018: “Everton means the world to me. I’m a boyhood fan, I’m a local player and I’ve supported Everton all my life, it was a very difficult decision but I felt it was the right move to Chelsea. I am grateful for what the club has done for me over the years and it was hard to leave. It was The fans are great with me.”
He can now return home in January, which could pave the way for Lucas Denny to head the other way to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea could make a move for the left-back after confirming that Ben Chilwell needs knee surgery, and Dine is a consistent target for the Blues.
