The United States Small Business Administration has announced that it is now offering low-interest federal disaster loans to small businesses in Tulare County that have been economically affected by the economic impacts of the Windy and KNP complex fires for the period September 9 through December 16.

Both fires began on September 9. The Windy Fire was declared 100% contained in November, and the KPM complex was declared 100% contained on Thursday.

Loans can be used to offset temporary loss of revenue due to fires and are available to small non-farm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small aquaculture businesses, and most private nonprofit organizations of any size.

We are pleased to see this resource available to Toller County business owners who have been hit hard by this year’s bushfires,” said Andrew Lockman, Director of the Tulare County Office of Emergency. “The county is committed, and remains, to working with all partners to ensure that those affected by the wildfires Forests are a voice and they can recover.”

SBA loans can be used to pay off fixed debt, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills. Eligibility is based only on the financial impact of the disaster – not on any property damage. The interest rate on loans is 2.855 percent for small businesses and 2 percent for private non-profit organizations. The terms are up to 30 years and are limited to small businesses that do not have the financial capacity to offset the economic impact without suffering.

The application deadline is September 21, 2022.

Applicants can apply online, obtain additional information for disaster assistance, and download applications at https://disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/.
